Hans Discovers He's An Idiot, or How Zephan Became Ambidextrous

Well, today's page was an adventure. Aside from taking some 9 hours to complete rather than 3 (because I was letting the INTERWEB completely DISTRACT me), as I was finishing inking the page, I noticed a MASSIVE PROBLEM that I overlooked, and feel wholeheartedly DUMB for.

Basically, the background of the second panel didn't agree with the previous pages, so I had to a) redraw the background, or b) flip the page. Well, obviously, as you can see, I did the latter. In fact, I think I might like how the page works out better with it flipped, but obviously it's not without its problems. For one thing, Zephan can no longer be exclusively right-handed anymore, unless that IS the way one would normally charge at somebody with a lance/staff-type weapon--I honestly don't know! I googled for pictures of "staff fight" and "lance fight" to make sure, but none of them specifically stated "this is somebody using a staff right-handed!" or whatever. 9_9. Also, because Zephan and Ryan's hair are not parted at the middle, I had to redraw their bangs after I scanned it in :p.

While I'm making commentaries on my pages, I guess I should mention the previous page. That third panel, with Xin? His hands used to be at a lower level, so they were exactly framing his crotch region. Obviously, as hot as a magical crotch would have been, that has since been adjusted. :p

In conclusion, from now on I'm sticking the Directions of Destiny banner on the top of entries where the comic has an update? Likewise for Lapis Aquae, I suppose.

Perfectionist. ;P

I'm sure you would have been the only one who would have noticed.

Well, at least about the right-handedness thing. The magical crotch may have drawn some attention, but I'm not sure. ^_^

Right-Handed...

About the right hand thing... he could still be considered right-handed. I mean, if you're right-handed, doesn't your right hand generally go above your left hand when holding a staff or something? (I actually tried it with my broom and found it to be more comfortable than having my left hand on top.) And when he's charging... I think right-handed people generally hold it to their right, but he could be having a stupid moment and just held it at his left instead (Don't take my word on it though, I use a baseball bat to fight, not a lance or staff).

But, wow! I wouldn't have even noticed that if you hadn't pointed it out (unlike when Xin's pen was missing in one of the earlier pages...). ^^;;;

I'll stop rambling now... o.o;; Keep up the good work!! ^__^;;

Re: Right-Handed...

Well, try holding a staff (or broom!) the way he's holding it on the original page (to your right side) with your right hand on top; her left arm would be at an uncomfortable position :o.
I noticed the crotch framing actually! Particuarly because the text is "O gates to the nether world.. in which entities dwell.." .. hoho!
Hi, maybe I can help. I do traditional, Japanese kartedo. We use a bo and it doesn't matter if you are right or left handed when using it since the forms on each side are the same regardless. Here is a link to a website about Okinawan Karate: http://www.wonder-okinawa.jp/023/eng/013/001/index.html
It has some nice pictures of holding a bo in the movie which is really more of a slide show. It might also be a good reference for drawing weapons in the future. Anyway it can show you the hand position. It doesn't show any swings though.
Oooooh :o!! Thank you for this link XD I swear, looking for a "staff" on Google can lead to such convoluted results x_o
Er, it might be a stupid question, but couldn't you have just flipped the second panel, and left the rest (without having to redraw all the hair)? Well, then I s'pose the first panel Zephan would have switched which hand was on top (even worse! ^__^). But having little chibi!Ryan running to the left looks a little odd to me - the flow worked better having her run off the page, as it were. But that's a minor nitpick anyway.

This page made me giggle so much - Ryan totally ruined Zephan's dramatic moment ^___^. And I too have been the culprit of shouting out a locker combo XDDD.
At first I just had the top two panels switched, but because Zephan was running towards the right side of the page, it seemed more awkward for him to be facing the opposite way when Ryan shouted at him; yes, I agree that it probably would've worked better running to the right instead of the left, but it's kind of the lesser of two evils :o
